THE Jamaican hotshot has proved an extremely popular player since arriving in the Potteries in the summer of 2006.
Fuller’s 15 goals last season – including a stunning hat-trick against promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion – proved crucial in firing the Potters back into the top flight.
His pace, skill and agility make him a handful for any defender.
City’s number ten joined the club from Southampton where he had been deemed surplus to requirements by then manager George Burley. In his first season at the Britannia Stadium he set about proving his former gaffer wrong to send him packing by scoring 10 goals to put Stoke within touching distance of the play-off positions.
The international began his career at Jamaican club Tivoli Gardens before moving to Crystal Palace in a £1 million deal in 2001. However injury problems hampered his time in South London and he returned to Jamaica at the end of the campaign.
His next shot at British football came again a few months after returning to Tivoli when he joined Scottish Premier League side Hearts on loan. But the side couldn’t afford the transfer fee and so Fuller joined Preston North End for £500,000.
Scoring on his debut in a 2-1 defeat against former club Palace, Fuller went from strength to strength at Deepdale and scored 31 goals in 63 games.
Injury problems had blighted his time in Lancashire and he left for Portsmouth in August 2004 after Pompey boss Harry Redknapp snapped him up on a ‘pay-as-you-play’ deal.
Redknapp later departed for Southampton and took Fuller with him in a £90,000 deal.
Despite a decent start to his time at St Marys, Fuller came in for abuse from large sections of home support because of his Portsmouth connections and the injury problems he was suffering from.
He was farmed out on loan to Ipswich where he scored twice in three games, before heading to the Britannia Stadium.
Supporters have watched in amazement as Fuller has danced around stunned defenders in the Championship. They will be hoping he can replicate that ability on an even bigger stage.
