JAMES Beattie missed a sitter against old club Blackburn this afternoon to leave boss Tony Pulis lamenting missed chances in Stoke’s 0-0 draw here at Ewood Park.
Beattie stepped off the bench to scoop over from close-range in the 75th minute as both sides fought out a keenly-contested game deserving better than the goalless stalemate.
“The lads are disappointed we haven’t won because of the chances we created,” said Pulis.
“I thought we defended when we had to,” he continued, “although they had chances as you‘d expect because they are a very tough team at home.
“We were always dangerous on the break, played some smashing football and created some great opportunities when you look at it.
“It was a terrific game for both sets of supporters.
“They put you under pressure because they’re a big team and they also have a goalkeeper who puts you under pressure with his kicking from his own box.
“I think that’s the first time we’ve played with the two wingers out wide away from home this season, but we thought we could do that because of the way Blackburn play.
“But for it to work, we needed a good performance from our two midfielders in the middle (Dean Whitehead and Salif Diao) and that’s what we got.
“I thought those two were absolutely magnificent because at times they were playing against four of their players.”
Ryan Shawcross is an early doubt for Arsenal away next weekend after limping off with a groin injury, while Dean Whitehead is definitely missing after picking up a fifth booking of the season to earn a one-match ban.
YAWN YAWN YAWN,Just got back
YAWN YAWN YAWN,Just got back from Blackburn bilge £120 down the pan!!!TP did the unthinkable and droped Faye and Delap---wow.Man of the match for them was Whitehead probably the worst of his woeful performances yet,Salif was no better and as for Mama???????? We are a long ball team at the best of times but when Mama is on everything is in the sky.Did he have four foot studs on his boots????I dont think he won a single header all day.I wont go on and on but all I can say it was a point each for two crap sides and that last spot on match of the day is a cert!!
TP has gone off his
TP has gone off his rocker, just read whitehead had his best game for Stoke and now Mama is back he is resting Beatie!!!!!!!!! Whitehead was not only woeful again today(11th game on the bounce) but he was Blackburns best kept secret having denied us two goals.I dont know what it is with Pulis but does he really think us Stoke fans are that thick that if he says one of his dross pets has had a good game then that makes up for his decision to pick the idiot, every single person around me today were moaning their bag off about Whitehead and cannot believe how he is getting picked week in and week out let aloan how much Pulis paid for him!Now the big one, is it me or have I lost the plot?? can anyone else remember when Mama was crap?It looks like he is now our second choice striker, ahead of Tunny and kitson(who scored two today when we cannot buy a goal at the minute)a true mark of TPs ability as a manager,Beats injured,Mama no where near fit just back from long term injury and not very good so we loan out our highest goal scoring striker, can anyone explain.
