PREVIOUS MEETING
Aug 15, 2009 – Premier League

STOKE CITY 2
(Shawcross 19, Jordan og 33)
BURNLEY 0

STOKE safely disposed of Premier League newcomers Burnley on the opening day.

The Clarets arrived with pre-publicised deficiencies at the back – and Ryan Shawcross exposed that fallibility by losing his man to head home Liam Lawrence’s free-kick on 19 minutes.

And it was game, set and match just after the half-hour when stand-in centre-half Stephen Jordan nodded Rory Delap’s long throw past his own goalkeeper.

Stoke City: Sorensen, Wilkinson, Higginbotham, Shawcross, Abdoulaye Faye, Lawrence, Whitehead, Delap, Etherington (Whelan, 76), Beattie (Kitson, 67), Fuller (Cresswell, 88).
Burnley: Jensen, Mears, Kalvenes, Carlisle, Jordan, Blake (Eagles, 72), Alexander (Thompson, 81), McCann, Elliott, Fletcher, Paterson (Guerro, 72).
Attendance: 27,385.

FORM GUIDE
Burnley:
WLLLL
Stoke: DWWLL

WHO WE’D LIKE TO SIGN
If he carries on scoring goals like that one against Portsmouth recently, we’ll have Martin Paterson back thanks very much.

WHO TO BOO
Join forces with the opposition for once and give Owen Coyle the full works – even though the Bolton boss will be too far away to hear.

MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Howard Webb (Sheffield).
Yet to blow for a City goal this season after overseeing a 2-0 defeat by Man United and goal-less draws with Blackburn and Sunderland.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS
Burnley:
Jensen, Mears, Fox, Carlisle, Cort, Alexander, Nugent, Elliott, MacDonald, Blake, Fletcher.
Stoke: Sorensen, Wilkinson, Collins, Ab Faye, Huth, Lawrence, Delap, Whitehead, Pugh, Sidibe, Fuller.

PREDICTION
STOKE old boy Leon Cort heads home at both ends to hog the headlines in a 1-1 draw.
