TONY Pulis admits he will miss the suspended Ryan Shawcross at Chelsea on Sunday – but there was never going to be an appeal against his three-match ban.

And he revealed that since breaking Aaron Ramsey’s leg last Saturday, Shawcross has received nearly 300 e-mails of support ... from Arsenal fans.

“We could have appealed,” Pulis admitted, “but we want to let the matter rest. The injury Aaron suffered overshadows everything.

“It’s not an incident you want to bring up again, so we will take our medicine.

“Our view is that we are more concerned about the injury and seeing a great, young footballer recover.”

And Pulis stressed the decision not to appeal was no admission of an ugly tackle by Shawcross.

“There was no malice or vindictiveness,” added the City boss. “If anything, Ryan could have hurt himself as much as Aaron.

“It was a complete and utter accident. It was an awkward challenge, but he’s kept his eye on the ball.”

Pulis said the wider world now appeared to be supporting that view and Arsenal fans, to their credit, had also offered messages of support to Shawcross.

“I think Ryan has had nigh-on 300 e-mails from Arsenal supporters sympathising with him and his reaction when he came off the pitch,” Pulis disclosed. “The reaction of the Arsenal supporters has been brilliant.”

He also said Shawcross hoped to meet up with Ramsey – whenever and wherever the teenage Welshman agrees – after making contact via text messages.

“Ryan will see him when Aaron’s ready. That will be determined by the kid and his family, but Ryan would love to see him,” added Pulis.

He declined to criticise Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman’s less than charitable view of events when describing Shawcross tackle as “horrendous” immediately after Saturday’s game.

“There’s emotions after the game, and I felt empty myself. If Arsene says it, Arsene says it, but the most important thing is the public, and I think the majority of people accept Ryan went in with no intent whatsoever.”

Pulis also agreed that he and the club might have to rehabilitate Shawcross during his three-match ban following today’s return from his first England call-up.

“I will be speaking to Ryan by myself and we’ll have a good chat,” he said. “Our players will be brilliant with him and so we’ll all help him along.

“This is a good football club that responds to adversity. When things go against us, we all pull together.

“Peter Coates, our chairman, has already spoken to him. Ryan’s one of ours and we will look after him.”

Pulis has challenged Shawcross to immediately rediscover his best form after his three-match ban to maintain his name in Fabio Capello’s World Cup thoughts.

“Ryan is part of the future we’re trying to build here and if he picks his form up where he left off,” Pulis said, “then he’s got a fantastic chance of getting on that plane for South Africa.”

And Pulis revealed Shawcross had been taken under the wing of several of England’s senior stars while with Capello’s squad.

“Ryan’s been away and he’s had a fantastic couple of days with England,” he said.

“I’ve made sure I’ve spoken to him every day and he has been fine, and the players have been fantastic.

“Steven Gerrard, apparently, has been exceptional and as the captain of the team has really looked after him.

“People like Wayne Rooney and David Beckham have also been brilliant, and I think Ryan will be the first to say how much help he’s had from the players.

“Beckham has been very good with him, like they all have. It’s the first time he has been called up for England and I think they do it with most of the lads.

“They are human beings and they know he is new to the squad, irrespective of what happened on Saturday, and that he will need some help.”

RYAN'S BAN

As the tackle was a complete and utter accident why was there a ban? It was not even a foul!

SHAWCROFT

as a arsenal fan i dont hold it against shawcroft, he went in hard and got a red card and 3 match ban, which i think was fair,
he went in hard to hurt ramsey, but not break him, unfortantely arrons leg got cauught on the ground, if his foot was off the ground he would have just got a whack and a bruise, which is what we all like to see the opposing team get, if were honest, they will be ok for the next game,

but what us arsenal fans are saying is, we get more off those bruise tackles than anyone else, and it seems tough tacklers seem to get a extra foul against us before the yellow card is shown,
if referees were consistant we would be playing against 10 men more often,

the 3 broken legs prove this point, as they were going in hard against arsenal tackles, that were badly timed,
ITS NOT EXTRA PROTECTION WERE AFTER, ITS COSISTENCY AND NOT EXTRA LEIANCY BECAUSE THEY R PLAYING ARSENAL,

Shawcross

Nothing from Pulis then about the 300,000 abusive emails from Arsenal fans.
As for bexhillpotter, you must have the same optician as Arsene :)

It's not like Shawcross has done this before

Actually it is. Ryan Shawcross is the same person who broke Francis Jeffers's ankle with a tackle from behind in 2007. He nearly broke Adebayor's ankle when he wasn’t even on the pitch in our match with them last year and nearly broke Cesc's foot in the cup match a couple of months ago.

CLOGGING DONKEY

300 offers to leave the sport more like. Be under no illusion Arsenal fans have lost all tolerance with these gormless streaks of talentless lurching menace. Players of the ilk of Shawcross and Martin Taylor are an angry pus filled boil on the arse of the game. He's a great lad, he's not that sort of player he loves fluffy animals sick and tired tired tired of hearing that guff. This oik has previous on both Jeffers and Adebayor, he's exactly that sort of player.
Once again Arsenal fans sit and watch as the cliches and anti Arsenal agenda are trotted out by the media clowns and a violent clogging oaf like Shawcross is painted as the victim solely because of his nationality. It's truly pathetic and a damning indictment of our retarded national footballing mentality.

Then I guess we can add

Then I guess we can add sarcasm to the multitude of other things Pulis is too dumb to comprehend.

As for bexhillpotter, people like you deserve to watch dire football week in, week out.

fanman's picture

Have you actually seen the

Have you actually seen the Shawcross Jeffers incident or are you actually just basing it on the fact that other people have mentioned it.

With regards to Adebayor incident did you also see the assault on Ryan before that tackle was made?

As for Cesc, it's plainly obvious what kind of player he is with his tackles on Whitehead and Pugh.

Grow up and get over it!

Closure.

300 sensible Arsenal fans. 300,000 who just don't want to see the facts. I would guess that the 300 were actually at the game and didn't view it through someone elses eyes.

Redcurrant, you keep watching your pinball soccer and your overpaid whinging primadonnas and we'll keep our honest, committed, passionate, hardworking team any day of the week.

Yours until we pass you,

Nearly a week on and still crying...

You Gooners have gone as soft as those padded seats you plonk your Arsenals on at the Emirates!

'Horror tackles' are either,

'Horror tackles' are either, from behind, high, with studs up or clearly malicious. Ryan's tackle was none of these things. That said I think the ref was right to issue a red under the circumstances even if I'd argue the challenge wasn't deserving of one under a strict interpretation of the rules.

I've been shocked reading comments this week from some paranoid and delusional Arsenal fans. I can only think this is partly a result of the 'Arsenal don't like it up 'em' myth. They have to realise that this idea is really just propagada (pre-match mind games if you like). What clubs like ours and Bolton mean by it is that we can keep tight on Arsenal, use an arial threat, create a hostile atmosphere. It doesn't mean that we set out to injure the opposition. In fact Arsene Wenger's (a man I actually admire) suggestion that we do is shockingly disrespectful. I understand his reaction in the heat of the moment but he could have moderated his comments in the days following the match. He could learn a lot from Tony Pulis's conduct.

Like all decent football fans I wish Aaron Ramsey a speedy recovery.

the 300 dumb arsenal fans

those 300 so called Arsenal fans are probally the same idoits that booed Eboue booed and abused Adebayor forcing him out the club and the dumb shits who want Arsene to be sacked. these fake Arsenal supporters shud are the same idits that fuel the anti-arsenal media i wish these fake arsenal fans would just get lost

Horrendous?

It was a strong and late challenge, resulting in an horrendous injury. But it was not a horrendous challenge.

bexhillpotter thats a stupid comment, of course it was a foul, take the blinkers off.

And arsenal fans, theres no anti-arsenal agenda with the challenges against you. You could pick similar challenges from almost any game in the prem between any two team, including your own players.

That said, we all wish Ramsey a speedy and full recovery.

"The tackle"

I'm going to add my tuppence worth on this! I've kept quiet for a week but this is now ridiculous.

I am a proud Stoke fan just to point out and I'm half Welsh!

For starters, despite all the pro-Ryan media coverage, the lad is a genuine legend. He's a gentle giant and importantly he would NEVER do anything like last Saturday on purpose! Simple! That is a FACT!

Forget about what has happened in the past, it means bugger all in this instance. The Eduardo incident was not done by a Stoke player and believe it or not arrogant Arsenal "fans," Stoke and Birmingham are NOT the same kind of team!

Ryan is not a dirty player and if you watched most centre backs in the country they have moments where they are late and mis-time tackles. Saturday was such a case. It's convenient to label a Stoke player at this stage and this was a media accident waiting to happen.

My advice? Take a step back and watch the incident again. It's barely a yellow card tackle in this fast modern game and as the ref has noted since, Ryan would not have been sent off but for the broken leg. I would also like to note that I am half Welsh and follow the Welsh football team, but Ramsay was simply unfortunate with where his foot was planted at the time.

These incidents happen every week, with malice intended on some occasions (look at the Birmingham Wigan game last week!) but Ryan has his eyes on the ball, is not high and not showing studs. Just late and fully committed. No worse than Vieira's elbow vs Whitehead the week before, or Adebayor's kick at Van Persie before Christmas!

I grew up watching the likes of Keown and Adams kick their way through the opposition. People in glass houses... *rolls eyes*

Arse v Bolton

Am I the only one that saw a far worse tackle in this game by Gallas than the genuine if fractionally late Shawcross tackle? Glass houses and stones hey!?
I can't believe now that there as been time for the anger and horror to subside that the Shawcross tackle can't be reviewed and seen as an accident. Check how the ref is casually jogging across until he sees Ramsey's leg. Doen't look like He's just witnessed an 'horrendous' tackle going off his body language to me.
The only thing that was horrendous was the outcome not the tackle. These unfortunate accidents happen in contact sports like football as Rory Delaps leg break v Sunderland proves. How many programs or column inches did that injury take up?
Accidents happen, time to move on. Hope you make a full and speedy recovery Aaron, get well soon son.

Shame On You.

You should be ashamed of yourself rorybombs for suggesting that Arsenal players take part in tackles - and some of them not always clean tackles.
Did you not know that they don't play like that and are perfect in every way - THERE MANAGER SAYS SO!

Gallas

Rorybombs......I'm afraid you were the only one to see the bad Gallas tackle ......

cuz he didn't play!!! Sorry mate.

I agree with the rest of your message though. hehehe
