Potters' promotion season captured in book

A book which follows City's return to the top flight is set to be released

WHEN David Johnson told his wife: "I'm writing a book", little did he know it would end up as an account of one of the most historic seasons in Stoke City's history.
The 42-year-old was desperate to go to the first game of last season away at Cardiff – but he had already used up his weekly "pass out" going out with his best friend.
He convinced wife Alison the trip was essential because he was going to write about following City for the season.
The result is Tie Me To The Mast, which charts the Potters' promotion to the Premier League.
David, who is The Sentinel's business editor, said: "I'd thought about writing a book the season before, but nothing ever came of it. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't come up with this white lie, I wouldn't have done it this time either."
He added: "I hope it captures the incredible drama and emotional turmoil all of us went through as fans. But it's also about being a fan in general, being a dad, getting old, Stoke-on-Trent, rubbish adverts, loading dishwashers and a load of other things."
Sportsbooks is publisher and David, of Congleton, will be signing copies on Saturday between noon and 1pm at Waterstone's in The Tontine Centre, Hanley. From Saturday it will be available in bookshops and Amazon.
