City defender Collins wins prestigious awardNov04
by Michael Baggaley STOKE defender Danny Collins has won the prestigious North East Football Writers Association footballer of the year award - and City forward Tuncay has come third. Collins, who joined Stoke in a £2.75m deal from Sunderland in August, has landed an honour previously won by the likes of Alan Shearer, Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips. Tuncay, who signed from Middlesbrough for £5m in August, came third, behind former Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong. The award is for the 2008-2009 season and is chosen by all regional and national football writers in the North East. Sunderland manager Steve Bruce’s decision to sell Collins upset some of the club’s supporters after the defender was voted the Black Cats’ player of the year for each of the last two seasons. Collins is expected to attend the award ceremony in Durham on November 29. The event is traditionally attended by the managers of all the North East’s major football clubs.

collins
I honestly believe collins has nothing to prove to the Stoke City fans - he will settle in just fine. Sunderland had their chance and decided to get rid so who else better to have him other than Stoke - Exactly!!! The boy from Cymru Alliance football as done Sunderland also Wales justice and i'm sure given some time he can do the same for Stoke- Yep, there was that hick up with the penalty been given to Bolton but the best of us make mistakes and he did have a better game against Everton....
